Thinking about residential property investment in Auckland? The latest Mercer Quality of Living Survey for 2015 could give a great incentive to purchase a home in the City of Sails. Auckland was ranked as having the third best quality of living in the world, pipping Wellington and all Australian cities to make the top 10.

This is the third year that Auckland has been awarded the title, following equivalent rankings in 2012 and 2014. The Mercer survey examines a range of factors, from health and transport, to infrastructure and water sanitation, to help multinational companies determine costs for sending employees on assignments overseas.

Mayor Len Brown is already committed to making Auckland the world's most liveable city. He has noted that transport is a priority, with the council already planning the City Rail Link for 2016, and new ferries and cycle ways. A more connected city offers some great development and investment opportunities in the years ahead.

In a March 4 release, Lorraine Jennings, Mercer's global mobility practice leader in the Pacific market, pointed out that Auckland's third placing confirms that residents have a high quality of living, which makes it an attractive prospect for global business – and investment.

"The consistent performance of New Zealand cities, particularly Auckland, in Mercer's Quality of Living Index illustrates the appeal of the region in providing a stable base for employees and their families," she said.

Auckland is doing a great job in attracting foreign business to New Zealand's shores, which lays some golden opportunities for investment in the residential property market. Not only does offshore capital provide a boost for job creation and business expansion, but it supports economic development – all important factors in the residential property mix.

While this might seem like a compelling enough reason to invest in Auckland property, make sure you get reliable advice before taking the plunge. An Authorised Financial Adviser, like us here at Goodlife, can help sort through your options.
